COMPETITION REQUIREMENTS:
Pre-Alpha through Delta: Open to skaters of all ages. Skaters must perform one additional maneuver from the Free style 1 level and programs should be one minute long.

Stroking: Open to all Pre-Alpha through Delta skaters. Competitors will be grouped by age and test level. They will perform forward crossovers along the ends of the rink in both directions to music selected by the host rink.

Beta: The foot must be lifted off the ice for backward crossovers, cutbacks do not meet test requirements.

Gamma: At least three strokes must precede the mohawk combination for a total of seven steps.

Delta and Free style 1: The edges must be done consecutively in any order, outside-outside, inside-inside on an axis. In Delta the lunge must be completed with a one foot glide.

Free style 1 through 8: Entrants should compete according to elements listed in the Test Standards. Program time will allow for a 10 second leeway over the recommended time. Uncaptured maneuvers as listed in the Competitor's Handbook will be allowed according to level restrictions recommended. Elements from a higher test level are not permitted from Free style 1 through Free style 10.

Spotlight: Open to Pre-Alpha through Delta and Free style 1 through Free style 10. Skaters may enter solo and couples as long as the music and the routines are different, but are only allowed to enter ONE solo spotlight event. In spotlight, timing begins with any action after the music begins. Time limits for programs are Pre-Alpha through Free style 3 - 1 minute and Free style 4 through 5 - 1.5 minutes and Free style 6 through 10 - 2 minutes. The penalty for not following the limitation on moves that a skater may perform during a spotlight is a grade of 2.0 for music and choreography.
Skaters in Pre-Alpha through Delta are permitted to perform maneuvers from the Free style 1 level or lower and any uncaptured moves allowed for these levels.

Skaters in Pre-Alpha through Delta are permitted to perform maneuvers from the Free style 1 level or lower and any uncaptured moves allowed for these levels.

Skaters in Free style 1 through Free style 4 are permitted to perform maneuvers from the Free style 4 level or lower and any uncaptured moves allowed for these levels.

Skaters in Free style 5 through Free style 10 are permitted to perform maneuvers from any level as well as any uncaptured moves.

Props: If used are limited to those that a skater can hand carry or push onto the ice in 30 seconds or less. Props may not be flame or smoke-oriented or any other substance that would alter the ice surface (i.e. sparkles, confetti, whip cream, etc.)

The judging criteria will be costume and/or prop, music & choreography, judge's appeal, originality and duration. No technical grade.

The Spotlight category will be divided into 3 divisions: Spotlight Character, Spotlight Dramatic, and Spotlight Light Entertainment and then according to enrollments will be divided into compatible test levels and age groups. Skaters may only compete in ONE Solo Spotlight event.

Couples Spotlight: Skaters do not need to be of the same test level to be partners, however, they must be grouped as Pre-Alpha through Free style 3 (LOW) or Free style 4 through Free style 10 (HIGH). Skaters will be grouped according to the higher partner's freestyle level. Programs for LOW Couples Spotlight will be 1 minute and a HIGH Couples Spotlight will be 1.5 minutes. All the same rules, guidelines, penalties, etc. for props in Spotlight apply to Couples Spotlight.

Artistic: Open to skaters Free style 1 through Free style 10. There are no required moves, emphasis is placed on the creative and innovative design of a skating program. The main focus should be on strong edges, body positions, flow, music interpretation, rhythm, choreography and artistry. There is no score for technical merit. Artistic skating differs from Dramatic Spotlight in that the latter focuses on emotional themes, costumes, props, etc. Artistic skating highlights the artistry of skating fundamentals. Programs are 1.5 minutes for Free style 1 through 5 and 2 minutes for Free style 6 through 10. Timing begins with any action after the music begins. No props are permitted.

Footwork: Open to skaters Free style 1 through Free style 10. Skaters are grouped together by age and level, and perform any footwork sequences that are not mandatory dance step sequences in any freestyle test level. Skaters must comply with criteria set by the ISI in the Competitors Handbook. Emphasis should be on a variety of turns and clean edges. No props are permitted. Programs are one minute for all levels. Skaters may not perform any jumps over ½ rotation (the half loop is a full rotation jump) or any spins over 3 revolutions.

Interpretive: Open to skaters Alpha through Free style 10. Skaters are grouped together by age and level. Skaters must comply with the criteria set by the ISI in the Competitors Handbook. Skaters are not allowed to be coached by instructors, parents or anyone else during this event. The emphasis of this event is on the skater's ability to choreograph to music, and not on the difficulty of the maneuvers performed. Music is to be selected by the Competition Director. Alpha through Free style 3 - 1 minute; Free style 4 through Free style 10 - 1.5 minutes.

Comedy Team: Open to skaters of all ages and levels. May include duos, trios, quartets and groups of 5 to 14 skaters. Routines should illustrate humor, light and amusing character or scenes while using costumes and props in an entertaining format. Program length is 2 minutes.

Family Spotlight: Open to 2 or more family members. Duration is 1.5 minutes.

Hockey Skating Race: All participants are required to have the following equipment: Hockey skates, helmet, face mask, mouth guard, shoulder pads, shin pads, elbow pads, hip pads, support cup, gloves, and regulation ice hockey stick. The pucks will be supplied by the Competition Committee. Skaters will race one (1) or two (2) at a time, skating one (1) forward lap around the rink, carrying the puck on the stick. After completing the forward lap, the skater will drop the puck, keep the stick, and skate another lap around the rink backward. The skater with the best time wins. The skaters will be grouped according to level: Mite, Squirt, Peewee, Bantam, Midget and Higher.
